Ann M. Sherman
Interim Vice President & Chief Financial Officer
Ann M. Sherman became the Interim Vice President & CFO of Administration & Finance at San Francisco State University in January 2017. She is responsible for all facets of Administration and Finance including Audit & Advisory Services, Budget Administration & Operations, Business Operations, Facilities & Services Enterprises, Fiscal Affairs, Human Resources, Information Technology Services, Physical Planning & Development. She currently serves on the President’s Cabinet providing a wide-range of direction and guidance for the campus according to strategic needs and CSU directives.
Ann previously served as the Senior Associate Vice President for Human Resources, joining the SF State leadership team in April, 2014. Her former positions have prepared her well for the scope of her current responsibilities, having served as the Director of Human Resources/EO Officer/Title IX Officer for seven years at Northern Michigan University (NMU); successively responsible positions in the medical device industry, culminating in her role as Vice President of Business & Customer Support for Viasys Corp.; and strategic and Division Controller positions during her seven years with Michigan Consolidated Gas Company.
Sherman’s passion is “releasing the power of human potential in organizations.” Her parents were both educators, and Sherman finds a strong fit with her personal values and mission of higher education. Ann is most proud of the results of SF State’s Emerging Leaders Program, which has prepared the most promising emerging leaders to assume enhanced responsibilities.
Sherman earned a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Michigan at Dearborn and conducted her graduate work at Wayne State University’s Industrial/Organizational Ph.D. program in Detroit. Her oldest son is a graduate from the University of Michigan, and her younger son is attending NMU. With her enthusiasm, optimism, and sense of humor, Ann keeps grounded and focused on continuous improvement and practical problem-solving.

Elena Stoian currently serves as the Executive Director of Budget Administration & Operations. Since joining the budget team in March 2015 from Physical Planning & Development, she has progressed from budget manager to director of Budget Administration & Operations. Stoian comes to SF State with more than 11 years of experience, having served as an administrative business officer at San Jose State. She has over 16 years of experience in administration, physical plant financial management, capital planning and construction, operational budgeting, financial modeling and forecasting, and enterprise resource planning implementation.
Associate Vice President
Frank Fasano currently serves as the Associate Vice President of Facilities & Service Enterprises. He brings 34 years of practical facilities management and engineering experience, including more than 20 years of progressively responsible leadership at UCSF in a full range of facilities management roles. Most recently, he served as director of facilities services at UC Berkeley and has previously held positions in contracting service to building systems in the private sector. Fasano's experience in Computerized Maintenance and Management System (CMMS) implementation at UC Berkeley and UCSF is particularly relevant to implementing the CMMS system at SF State. This system will revamp F&SE procedures and services by integrating operations, resulting in an updated work order system that better tracks project completion and preventative maintenance.
Throughout his career, Frank has led workflow process changes, integration of operations and technology programs (hardware and software) that dramatically increased productivity while enabling the achievement of resource efficiencies, thus improving customer service satisfaction. He has extensive experience with labor and employee relations as well as emergency and disaster recovery planning with the City of San Francisco. His engineering and building systems experience, which includes a broad range of fire and life safety systems, has been instrumental in the development and adoption of facilities design standards specifications for campus construction and preventive maintenance programs.
Jay Orendorff currently serves as the Associate Vice President for Business Operations, which includes Environment Health & Safety, Risk Management and Procurement. Jay is a graduate of the CSU and earned a Master of Science in Demographics with a minor in statistics from Utah State University. He began his history at SF State as a Senior Analyst in Institutional Research and later as the Senior Budget Analyst in Budget Administration & Operations.
Jay has over 23 years of CSU experience in enterprise business operations, institutional planning and financial management. Jay has had the unique opportunity of accumulating knowledge and experience from several departments on campus.
Associate Vice President (Interim)
Jeannette Peralta currently serves as the Associate Vice President (Interim) of Human Resources & Director of Talent Management & Compensation Solutions & Operations. She is a first generation, native San Franciscan who earned her Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Organizational Psychology from San Francisco State University, and a Master’s degree in Human Resource Management/Organizational Behavior from Golden Gate University. With 29 years of Human Resources experience, she is well versed in all aspects of the discipline and has worked for both small and large companies in retail, financial institutions, auxiliary, non-profit and for-profit organizations. Prior to coming to SF State’s HR Department, she was the Human Resources Manager for the Cesar Chavez Student Center.
Having been the first in her tri-lingual household to graduate college, Jeannette is well aware of the challenges many students face in achieving success and recognizes the role of the University in forming future generations. She is committed to SF State’s mission and has worked with ASI’s Project Connect in order to empower and educate visiting high school students on reaching their own career goals. Additionally, one of Jeannette’s intentions was to bring conscious leadership awareness to the campus and has been successful in this by presenting at SF State’s Women’s Leadership Conference, Employee University, and other departments.
Jeannette leads a holistic lifestyle, and her commitment to staying grounded, present, and mindful of the greater good led her to complete a Ph.D. in Metaphysical Science with an emphasis in Transpersonal Counseling. She keeps a balance of the mind, body and spirit, so that she may be fully present both professionally and personally. In her current role, she continues to empower, encourage, and educate with fun, laughter and humor.
Jeff Wilson joined San Francisco State in September 2017 as Associate Vice President of Fiscal Affairs. Jeff was at Sonoma State from 2006-2017 where he served as Senior Accountant for the Sonoma State Foundation, Deputy Controller for Sponsored Programs Administration, and Senior Director for Strategic Initiatives and for the Office of Faculty Research and Sponsored Programs. Prior to joining Sonoma State he worked in audit and advisory services and consulting at Deloitte and held positions at Wells Fargo and the Hudson Bay Company. He is a licensed Certified Public Accountant and received his bachelor’s degrees in accounting and commerce/business administration and a master’s degree from The University of Alabama.
Jeny Patino currently serves as the Executive Director of Housing, Dining, & Conference Services. Her experience within this sector spans over 10 years, and is coupled with her consistent high performance levels, strategic thinking and a demonstrated ability to orchestrate and lead her teams to meet critical performance milestones within a climate of organizational change, to the benefit of both internal and external stakeholders. Her ability to inspire performance while collaborating within and across the organization is of paramount importance as we engage the campus community in planning and implementing strategic investment and growth opportunities within the housing, dining and conference services portfolio.
Associate Vice President (Interim)
Maureen Pasag was appointed Interim Associate Vice President of Audit & Advisory Services in February 2017. Previously she has served as the Associate Vice President of Fiscal Affairs from 2014-2016. She possesses more than 16 years of experience in finance and audits in both the private and public sectors; including within the CSU system. She has worked at Fortune 500 companies, which include First American Title Insurance Co., Pulte Homes, and Station Casinos, Inc. She received her Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from CSU Northridge and is a licensed CPA in California.
Associate Vice President & CIO
Nish Malik currently serves as the Associate Vice President and Chief Information Officer for Information Technology Services (ITS). Nish has more than 17 years of experience in information technology in both the private and public sectors. During his three years at SF State, Nish has served in various roles within IT including Policy & Planning Officer, Director of Special Projects and most recently Assistant Vice President, which has prepared him to manage ITS operations.
Nish's ability to encourage collaboration, and his team building spirit have helped advance the completion of several complex IT projects, all of which have occurred in an efficient manner. As a committed member of the SF State community, Nish volunteered as one of the first board members for the Employee University. Nish is also responsible for co-chairing the Executive Technology Committee, Campus Technology Committee, and the Data Governance Steering Committee. Nish received his MBA, and his MS in Computer Information Systems from University of San Francisco.
